About
I am fascinated by stories. The characters involved cement my imagination. Drawn to both movies and music, I am constantly inspired to tell stories through film music, creating a musical culture for each one. Fueled by emotion, my film music is based off the characters. If they are joyful, mournful, curious, or angry, those characteristics and emotions are reflected in the music. This helps my audience understand the characters deeply by giving them an additional emotional outlet.
I am a classically trained pianist, but also a folk musician. My love of folk music grows out of my love for stories, since folk music recounts history, cultures, and individual lives. I work toward incorporating folk music into the film music I write.
Currently, I enjoy listening to the film composers James Horner and John Powell, both of whom integrate western folk music into their scores. I am also currently studying the romantic-era composer Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy to learn about his melodic structure.
